I was wondering, lets say I want to film on someone's property, and I got their verbal permission. I would want it on paper, just to be on the safe side. Are there any templates I could sue for these types of documents?
Where they just fill in the blanks, date, and sign the form.

    definetly get it written,

more importantly make sure you bring it with you when you come to a shoot

was nearly kicked off a location as the council had given us permission but failed to inform the manager of the property. our guy with the paperwork wasa over 6 hours away and it was only down to a bit of sweet ttalking that ew were allowed to film in aabsence of the paperwork.

Here is the blurb of the locatoin waiver i use

    1. I/We, ???????????????????.., (the owners) hereby agree to allow 5YLAC Films (the company), access to and permission to film in and around the precincts of the property / land known as ??????????????????????.... (the location) for the period starting at 0800 hrs on the ??.. day of ?????, 2002 and terminating at 20:00 on the ??? day of ????.. 2002.
    2. The location shall be defined as follows :

    3. 5YLAC shall not have permission to film in the following parts of the location :

    4. 5YLAC will provide the owners with remuneration for the shoot as follows :

    5. 5YLAC will undertake to ensure that they have Public Liability insurance in place to the sum of at least 2 million pounds. The insurance certificate will be available for the owners to view in advance of shooting.
    6. The owners will ensure that access to the location as defined in section 2 above is unimpeded during the shoot.
    7. During the shoot, access to the location by the owners, their agents or employees will be limited to periods in which filming is not taking place. Such access will be with the prior agreement of the Producer or Executive Producer of the film being shot.
    8. The owners will ensure that any issues surrounding Health and Safety that they are aware of at the location will be described to 5YLAC before the shoot commences.
    9. It is likely that some shooting may take place in the late evening.
    10. A form of words for crediting the location will be agreed between 5YLAC and the owners before distribution of the film or use of the location in publicity or PR materials. Should the owners NOT wish the identity of the location to be revealed, the wording ?Shot on location in Cambridgeshire, England? will be used on all 5YLAC materials.
    11. 5YLAC will retain the right, in perpetuity, to use the material shot on location in it?s products with no further remuneration to the owners. Apart from the remuneration detailed above, no further royalties will be made payable to the owners.
    12. 5YLAC will undertake to make good or pay for any repairs required to turf, etc. due to normal wear and tear from camera tripods, etc.
    13. 5YLAC will undertake to remove all rubbish and debris from the site during and after shooting. An inspection of the site by the owners at the end of the shoot will be welcomed.
    14. The owners will agree to provide a local contact phone number during the shoot in the event of issues that cannot be resolved by 5YLAC staff on site.

    Signed : ????????????.. for 5YLAC, dated : ???????????..

    Signed : ????????????? for the owners, dated : ????????????.

Thanks a lot. I got a question about the insurance portion. Is that for real? Do you have to have insurance when filming on location?

I agree. Article 5 rather defeats the purpose of "Guerilla Filmmaking".

oohhhhh very temptted to start on a rant, but its a rant that i have done many many times on this board.

so i will keep my insult throwing at people who film without insurance out of this post

    anyway to answer the quesion

    1. Yes it is for real

I have public liability up to 5. Million
I also have 400'000 insurance for hire kit
I have a million personal liablility
and 10 million insurance against my cast and crew suing me if they break their back

all of the above is currently waiting to be renewe d

Just to explain something and be positive, public liability insurance , insures you againt damage to another persons property more or less (more complicated than that but thats the jist)

If you go to my site and go to the production photo's you can see some of the photos of the locations i have shot at.

These include a 16 Century country manor house and a 300 year old church. on location i have had up to 55 people on my film , have tapped in the local electrics and installed 120 amp distribuion boxes which have been critical to our lighting needs. say the electrician i had hired to install that distribution box was a bitt dodgy and there was a fire ? there would be no way i could afford to pay for the damage to a stain glass window or a 300 year old table. so it makes sense.

ALSO IT GETS YOU TAKEN MORE SERIOUSLY . theres this myth that film councils and local authority's are unhelpful to low budget filmmakers, and i have always found them to be extremly helpful when finding location, only thing is yes ttey will be unhelpful unless you play by the rules a bit. which if you do opens up a new world one of the tthings i guarnatee they will ask you about is have you got public liability ? its not expensive and is only a phone call to arrange. it should be in your budget anad in your planning for your film.

Insurance is something I've been wondering about for my next short. Can you tell us how much all your cover costs you and what company provides it?

    Hey there.

"That's much cheaper than I was expecting. I'll definately look into getting some for my next shoot."

    FUCK THAT.

As long as I'm making movies with my own money and at this scale, I will sneak on the land and fuckin risk it.

55 people on set is fucking ridiculous Chance. What the fuck were you thinking?

    Despin out.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">many many times on this board? How's that possible, unless you've registered several different usernames? By your postcount you've only said anything 20 times, and 3 of them were in this thread.

What a risktaker, & how very guerilla of Chance.
